Welcome To Our Tutorials

WARNING: Before you go any further make a mental note of this: Linux must be shut down properly, or you can do damage to your filesystem. The proper shutdown would be to issue one of these commands:
'shutdown -r now' (does a reboot)
'shutdown -h now'
(does a halt)
'reboot'
'halt'

you can also issue the three finger salute which is
<ctrl> + <alt> + <delete> keys all at the same time.
DO NOT just press the reset or power button to reboot your linux system, and do not press ctrl-alt-del more than once. It may take a minute to shut down properly, but this is for the best.

NOTE: Section Six "Covers tar, .profile, misc commands" has a ton of information and is added to quite frequently. Make sure to look this section over for all the goodies, tips, tricks and valuable information. Instead of creating a new section for alot of the smaller quick things I use this section to place alot of information.

For an extrodinary explaination of how Linux works see http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/. This is for the advanced Linux user that wants to learn more about the inner tickings of Linux or if you have a desire to create your own Linux Distribution. This document is extremely well thought out and put together, an absolute must see for all advanced users of Linux.

For a RedHat specific FAQ check out: #Linuxhelper RedHat 6.0 or RedHat 6.1

Slackware vs RedHat: Read about the pros and cons of each BEFORE you choose your flavor of Linux.
