The Channel Rules And Bots for #Linuxhelper on Dalnet
|
We have a few channel rules that are enforced to keep order and respect in the
channel. Please keep in mind #Linuxhelper is our home therefore please
respect it the same as if you were to visit any friend's home. We do not get
paid for our time and efforts to help you, and with that in mind remember we
are not all knowing. We will try to answer all the questions that we can, and
point you in the right direction to your answers. We are NOT here to do it
for you, but instead we volunteer our time to teach you how to help yourself
in your quest for Linux knowledge.
- Abuse in any form or fashion towards any OP or fellow user is not
tolerated. In this case you will earn a ban that may or may not be
lifted depending on the severity of the abuse.
- Usage of any color or bold is not tolerated and earns you a 10 minute
ban.
- Constant repeating is not tolerated and will also earn a 10 minute ban
- Swearing in general is not looked upon as a good basis of
communication but using the "F" word will get you kicked and possibly
banned. Keep in mind there are a lot of younger people that frequent the
channel as Linux is very big with the young generation.
- Using wingate will get you banned. Every client is scanned upon
entery of the channel for any wingates and immediately removed by the bot
if one is found.
- Do NOT ask for OPs, period! Operator status is something that is
earned. Our OPs are always watching and when new OPs are needed there is a
vote among the current OPs (which is a majority rules vote) for new OPs.
You will be approached if you have been chosen to represent the channel as
an OP.
- No public status messages are allowed. No auto-aways, no changing nick
to an away nick. BitchX users do /set auto-away off /save. Xchat users click
Settings -> Setup -> Away -> uncheck "Show away once" and "Show away messages".
- Don't bother asking if you may ask questions. That's what we're here
for. :) Just ask your question as intelligently as possible;
provide details if requested. Don't repeat the question because you think
perhaps we didn't see it. We did, but either nobody
knows your answer or they simply don't feel like trying to answer. Remember,
we're not paid to be here, and might just be feeling antisocial. Also,
phrasing your question in an "interesting" manner
increases your chances of getting a useful answer. ie. claiming "Foo
doesn't work?!?" is unlikely to elicit a response more
useful than "Go away." -- sad but true.
- Do NOT message any of the OPs without asking permission in channel!
- Do NOT abuse the bot!
Linuxiqs is our perl AI helpbot and he has many features. You can see
here how to use all Linuxiqs features. Xirtam is
another one of our bots, he is an eggdrop bot with several tcl scripts and
a postgreSQL database backend that performs many functions in channel.
