#Linuxhelper was created when a few of us decided that we wanted to help people in a friendly atmosphere. We chose DALNet because it is a smaller network, allowing us to provide more one on one help for users due to the lower traffic volume. Most of us are also in very large Linux help channels like Efnet #linux and other channels that provide technical support for various applications and operating systems. None of us are "GODS" by any means.. ok I'm speaking for myself, but we will try our best to help you whenever possible. Please see our rules page for more information specific to the channel and the usage of xirtam or linuxiqs, our helpbots. Let's start with our SOPs. These are the group of us that orginally began the channel. SOP stands for Super Operator, those that belong to that group are asdw (Channel Founder), sorial, and beeps. This is our core group of owners of the channel and the ones that have the absolute last say in what takes place. Our AOPs are just as important and for all practical purposes hold the same weight as our SOP's. AOP stands for Automatic Operator, those that belong to that group are SnuggleB and wku2. We also have a few members that recieve voice status from our helpbot. Below you can find, from those that have submitted, a short blurb of each OP. I am asdw. I am at the top of this list for only one reason.......I created this site :) I am the orginal founder of #Linuxhelper meaning I registered the channel. Actually there were a couple of us that got together and decided to create a channel the way we wanted it to be: friendly, easy to use, and comfortable for all users to be a part of. Some of the OP's have dubbed me the "Queen" of the channel, I say feh! The Queen lives in England somewhere, I'm just your average Linux lover spreading the knowledge however the medium will let me. I have turned over most of the operations of the channel to the more than capable staff of OP's in the channel while I free up some time to continue to make "xirtam" our helpbot be as helpful as it possibly can be by gathering all kinds of material to place in him, for your benefit. Oh and to create this site to be as easy and friendly not to mention informative as possible. I still am very aware of all that takes place in channel and do stop by and chat as frequently as possible. I answer all email and feedback forms. All of your input is greatly appreciated and noted. I also hold OP status in #Linuxhelp on Dalnet and on #Linux and #nixhelp on Efnet all of which are GREAT sources of help and information. Instead of going into my background, as I am old as dirt and it would take up to much space on this page, I decided to just put my Resume as tacky as that my be, up here instead. Thank you for your interest in the channel and the OPs, keep coming back we have big plans for the future. A couple of more plugs: Mp3.com is where you can find my boys where their band "UNWORTHY" is featured. Oh and by the way, "YES" I "AM" a girl.......gasp! See A few pics of what I call command central which is where I spend the major of my time. Command Central I am sorial, aka David Biggar. If you're lucky enough to find me actually logged in, I'm just taking a little time away from running my consulting business (yes, I know the page looks entirely non business-like.. give me time!). E-mail me here if you like. My strong points in Linux involve RedHat's distribution, networking LANs and WANs, and (though not really Linux based), routing. I'm fairly fluent in XWindows installation, configuration, and utilization, but by no means am I an expert. Newly rediscovered is my love for Slackware (which I started learning Linux on, version 1, back in May 1993), so I'm becoming fluent in that distribution again as well. Mandrake, being a RedHat derivative, is also pretty easy for me. I currently run 6 linux servers and one workstation, all Intel based, all with RedHat of one revision or another. I of course use my workstation to install anything on. I try other distributions on it, other *nix systems, Win xx (when I'm desperate), etc. The quickest way to irritate me on-channel is to ignore my questions when you aksed for my help in the first place. A real tech support person (which is what we're trying to do here) must know certain things in order to properly diagnose and treat your ailment. Help us to help you! As a Customer Support Engineer with a West Coast Managed Service Provider, wku2 (Kieron to my Wife and Dad to my kids.. :) ) is involved with the ongoing maintenance and daily operation of Unix/Linux based customer solutions. In addition, I work with other disciplines and contribute on cross platform projects and product development. In a past life, I was employed with Transport Canada in Edmonton as a System Support Specialist, as well as doing time with Telus Advanced Communications as a Microcomputer Support Consultant. I was involved in freelance computer support in the Edmonton area when not holding down a real job.. :). I graduated from a Northern Alberta TechnologySchool's System Support Specialist program in 1999. I am actively pursuing my designation as a Red Hat Certified System Engineer. (ok...that bit was for the wife's benefit..but it's mostly true ;-) ) My hobbies include Motorcycles, fishing, pestering Sorial, teasing Qraze, and Nagging _Vanessa_ to study. :)
SnuggleB: His blurb will go here soon as he sends one in. beeps was a staff consultant for the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center's, Mission Operations Directorate, AIS Security Engineering Team and provided technical guidance and direction on interoperable systems, networked distributed systems, and penetration testing of the Space Station and Shuttle Ground Based Programs. beeps was the technical consultant for the Incident Response Team and anomaly/incident investigations. He's co-author of "Penetration Testing" and "Understanding the Internet", both published in the "Handbook of Information Security Management, Addendum - 1995-96 Yearbook", by Auerbach Publications [ISBN 0-7913-2562-8]. He's been a LAN Network Admin and off & on UNIX user/system administrator for over a decade. Current home systems (13) include:
More can be found about beeps and his music. That address will be changing, but we will make the change as soon as we are notified of the change. I am ultrasonic, a regular and op of #Linuxhelper. In the long run of things I am new to linux (maybe 3 years at the most). If anything, I am just a wise cracker. Aside from linux (what? there's a side?) I am a practicing Hindu and avid bicycler. I am working on learning new and better ways to do nothing. I am also working on clustering my home network. My current network (4) is as follows:
